Labradorite Hand Carved Sperm Whale Necklace.

These sleeping giants are hand carved from mystical labradorite. Each comes on a cruelty free cotton cord; choose black, beige, or brown, with your choice of fixed length finished with sterling silver fastenings, or adjustable length with slip knots.

Sperm whales only sleep for approximately seven percent of their day, but when they do, it looks weird and magical. Often huddled in groups of five or six, these school bus sized cetaceans are found napping vertically near the surface of the water. Scientists believe they sleep with one eye open and one half of their brain awake. This is to control their breathing (unlike us humans who are involuntary breathers), avoid predators, and maintain social contact. How whales in the wild rest continues to be a bit of a mystery, but these captures of sperm whales napping is certainly a beautiful sight.

✧ CRYSTAL MEANING ✧
Labradorite, with its remarkable play of colour, is a stone of transformation. This multi hued feldspar mineral makes for an ideal companion through change and uncertainty, imparting strength, perseverance and positive thinking. It is known for its power to make one feel elated for absolutely no reason. This, as well as its ability to simultaneously connect one to earth energies, makes it my go-to stone for the loveliest mingle of happiness and grounding. While those necessary grounding energies are present, it mostly connects with the upper chakras: throat, third eye and crown. It creates a clear path for communication of all kinds, heightens intuition and psychic abilities, and reveals one’s innate magical powers. It is a true stone of magic that will benefit just about anyone.

Labradorite was discovered in Labrador, Canada, by Moravian missionaries in 1770. This is where and when it gets its name, however, the mineral is referenced previously in legends by Inuit tribes, and was known to be in use by the Boethuk peoples of Newfoundland and Labrador. I implore you to do some digging on those many myths and legends that surround this mystical mineral.

Each piece is cleansed before packaging, and made with the best intentions to promote its specific energy and healing properties.
