✧ CRYSTAL MEANING ✧
No stone captures the imagination quite like Ethiopian opal. This hydrophane mineraloid forms in seams of volcanic ash and rhyolite, and its porous nature allows it to absorb water. When wet, it can become nearly transparent, then return to its luminous play of colour as it dries. With a Mohs hardness of around 5.5 to 6 and water content typically between 6 and 10 percent, it offers a delicate beauty that benefits from gentle care.
Ethiopian opal is often associated with emotional and spiritual balance. It is believed to support calmness, encourage inner peace, and deepen intuition through its connection to Water energy. The shifting spectrum of colour within the stone is thought to reflect light into the aura, inspiring creativity, hope and personal transformation. It is also used in crystal practices to support clear vision, emotional release and meditative focus.
Each piece is cleansed before packaging, and made with the best intentions to promote its specific energy and healing properties.
Something very important to note if you are planning on wearing Ethiopian opal jewellery: Do not get it wet! It is porous and water absorbing. If these opals absorb enough water, oil, or any liquid, their appearance may change and they may lose some of their brilliant "fire." Keep them dry and their otherworldly vibrancy will last forever. In this regard, Ethiopian opals require special care, but they are so worth it!
